Shivanasamudra & Mekedatu

Generally, one can cover these two places in a day trip from Bangalore, but we wanted to relax and made it a weekend trip. This trip was in mid-March which is not a season time for this place. So, we haven’t got much water in the waterfall, but the good part is the location was not crowded.

Route

We took the route through Kanakpura to reach Shivanasamudra. Stayed there and visited Mekedatu on the way back.

Throughout the route, the road condition is average. We haven’t faced much traffic, but the road was narrow than a usual national highway in most places.

Places to visit

Barachukki Waterfalls

This is the only place to visit here. The best time to visit this place is after the rainy season, so we didn’t get much water, but we liked being there and enjoyed the afternoon there. Please note, there are too many monkeys, so try not to carry any food items.

Mekedatu

On the way back, we visited Mekedatu. We went to the Sangama by car, crossed the river’s knee-deep water by walking, and then took a bus from the other side to reach the actual viewpoint. The view was outstanding and worth the effort. The road to Sangama was also very nice. It felt like driving through a national park.

Please note, the river stones are slippery, and be careful while crossing the same.

Stay

We stayed at Hotel Mayura Barachukki near Barachukki waterfall. This is the only and an excellent option if you want to stay at this place. The place was decently clean, staffs were helpful, and decent veg and non-veg food options were available.

Food options

In the off-season, when we visited, the food options were hardly any other than the Mayura Hotels at these two places. In both places, decent veg and non-veg food options are available.
